| Starting early in 1920, the Mazda Motor Corporation has today become
one of the largest automobile makers in the world. Based at Hiroshima
in Japan, and now this major player in the automobile industry sells
1.25 million vehicles annually. Mazda automobiles are to be found
at all corners of the world in Japan, North America, Latin America,
Europe and Australia too. Mazda was founded by Jujiro Matsuda and
even today many Japanese people do not refer to the automobiles from
this company as Mazda, but as Matsuda. But in the beginning the company
was not known as Mazda - it was the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd. that
was set up in 1920. Then in 1927 the company began to be known as
the Toyo Kogyo Co. Ltd. At first the company made machine tools, and
it was only in 1931 that they started to make the Mazda. The name
of the company was formally changed to Mazda only in 1984. |
